Elephant Mountain
Anaimalai The name Anai is derived from the Tamil word
anai or ana, meaning elephant and malai or mala, meaning hill — thus Elephant
Hill.
Anaimalai is a new taluk separated from Pollachi
in Coimbature district Tamil nadu India. As per Govt. of Tamilnadu, it's
declared as a new Taluk from 25th of October 2018. There are around 31 Villages
has been part of Anaimalai Taluk.
Anaimalai is well known for its pleasant weather all over the
year. The “Aliyar” and “uppar” rivers
run through it and it's also close to Top slip. Masaniamman Temple, Perumal
Swamy mount Temple, Someswaran Temple, Saibaba Temple, Azhukku Swamy Siddhar
Temple & Deivakulam Kaaliamman Temple are famous Temples around the area.
Anaimalai wildlife Sanctuary and Parambikulam Tiger Reserve are
the wildlife santuaries around the area.
Top Slip is a major location which is situated within Indira Gandhi
Wildlife Sanctuary. The name top slip comes from the 19th century practice of
sliding teak logs down the Anamalai Hills. There is also a Top Slip Recreation
area which provide enough space for parking personal vehicles. These personal
vehicles are not allowed inside the wildlife sanctuary.
The top slip area also features check-in counters along with forest rangers and forest jeeps. This top slip is situated about 37 km from Pollachi and is also very close to the Parambikulam Dam.
